Brothers Edwin, Richard and Philip live in Las Cruces at the San Jose Friary and they are members of St. Genevieve's parish. Brother Philip offers classes in Scripture to candidates for the diaconate. He is also available to offer classes to parishioners who want to learn more about Scripture. Brothers Edwin and Richard provide donations to assist the poor, the homeless and migrants with the basic necessities of life. An integral part of their daily life is intercessory prayer for benefactors and those who have requested their intercession.
Prior to coming to Las Cruces the Brothers served St. Joseph's School in El Paso, Texas for twenty-six years. Br. Edwin was the principal, Br. Richard the assistant principal and science teacher, and Br. Philip the religion teacher for the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades. He also taught adult classes for our parents interested in learning more about Scripture. All three were active in the parish as lectors and Eucharistic ministers.
In 2007 a group of contemplative Carmelites came from Chihuahua, Mexico to establish a new foundation in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Six of them arrived with only sixty dollars to start. Hearing of their need the Brothers contacted them to know exactly what assistance could be provided. For the next seven and a half years the Brothers brought food every weekend. In addition to that they purchased an oven and modern computerized sewing machines for them to earn a living. This provided the Brothers with an opportunity to imitate the example of Blessed Mother Frances Schervier and her Sisters who were instrumental in helping our founder John Hoever to establish our congregation.
